Lowe’s Woodworkers Shop Class host, Keith Flippen, continues work on the new coffee table. In Part 3, Keith demonstrates how to construct the nesting stool bases. Make sure that you repeat the steps in this video an additional 3 times, as you need a total of 4 stools. Each stool will need 4 frames, 2 stiles and 2 rails, as well and a long and short side of each frame. First, cut the wood to length on the miter saw, adding pocket holes. Then attach rails to the stiles. Once you have the 4 frames (2 long and 2 short), attach with glue and nails. Measure the diagonals to make sure the stool is square. Now, it is time to fill in the empty spaces with 4 side panels, 4 end panels and 2 bottom panels. Cut these pieces to width with the table saw and then to length with the miter saw. Focus first on the end and side panels, inserting them to the frames with glue and brands. Then, add cleats to hold the bottom panels in. Put the long cleats flush with the bottom of the end panels using glue and brads. Do the same with the short cleats, but on the other sides. Finally, attach the bottom panels with glue and brads.
